Our Philosophy
Hair medicine begins in the skin.
Hair loss has many causes – and not all of them can be solved surgically. In our specialist practice in Munich city center, we treat hair loss from diagnosis to intervention: from dermatological root cause analysis and conservative hair therapies to hair transplantation using the FUE method.
Dermatology, hair medicine, and aesthetic medicine are not separate disciplines for us – they follow a medical logic. Skin and hair are biologically inseparable. Anyone treating hair loss medically must understand the hair growth cycle, scalp biology, and hormonal connections – not just the surgical technique. The same applies to aesthetic procedures: a sound dermatological basis changes how things are planned, weighed, and treated.
Dr. Karg and Dr. Rosenthal have both completed this training path. With over 3,000 hair transplantations performed, we know when a procedure makes sense – and when it does not.

Why us
Hair Medicine as a Core Competency
Dr. Sophie Karg and Dr. Sussan Rosenthal combine surgical depth with dermatological precision. Hair and skin are biologically inseparable — which is why dermatology and hair surgery belong together in our practice.
Our specialization means that every transplant is performed by specialist doctors who also consider scalp health, hormonal factors, and long-term hair stability. Not as an additional service — but as a medical given.
Our surgical philosophy — why our success rate is so high
Two things set us apart from the standard approach of many providers: how we look after you and how we structure the surgical procedure. Both have a direct impact on what really matters in the end – the survival rate of your grafts.
Light sedation instead of surgical stress
Before the treatment begins, you will receive a mild oral sedative. You will enter a relaxed twilight state—awake, responsive, but emotionally detached from the surgical procedure. We will numb the scalp itself locally. General anesthesia is not medically necessary and would be disproportionate for an outpatient procedure.
The advantage for you: no fear, no tense hours, no enduring. Most patients report that time "flies by." → More details in the Anesthesia article
One continuous session — no breaks
We operate in a continuous session: no lunch break, no interruptions, no splitting over two days. The reason is biological: each extracted follicle spends only as long as absolutely necessary outside the body in a nutrient solution. This ex vivo time is the decisive factor for the subsequent growth rate—the shorter, the better.
Standard procedure in many clinics: first extract all grafts, then lunch break, then implant. In this process, individual follicles lie in the nutrient solution for several hours—biologically suboptimal. Our continuous flow of extraction → immediate sorting → immediate implantation minimizes this time.
The result: documented growth rates in our practice of 90–95%—the most important quality indicator for any hair transplant. → Why more grafts are not automatically better
From Diagnostics to Transplantation
Not every hair loss requires a transplant. That's why we offer a full spectrum of hair therapies — individually tailored to your diagnosis, hair type, and goals.
A hair transplant abroad may seem cheaper — but the price says nothing about the result. In our practice, you receive:
- Specialist execution — not by trained assistants, but by dermatologists with surgical specialization
- Consultation, procedure, and aftercare from a single source — no switching between doctor and clinic
- German hygiene standards and medical quality assurance
- Immediate availability for questions or complications — not just after a return flight
- Long-term care — we know your scalp, your hair structure, and your findings
Why fewer grafts often yield better results
Many clinics advertise their services based on the number of transplanted grafts. From a medical perspective, this is misleading.
What is crucial is not how many hair follicles are removed, but which ones — and how many of them permanently take root. Each graft from your donor area is only available once. If more are removed than the area can tolerate, the tissue is subjected to increased stress, blood circulation suffers, and the survival rate decreases. In the worst case, grafts are lost — both in the recipient and donor areas, permanently.
We thoroughly analyze your donor area before the procedure: hair structure, follicle density, hair group distribution. Based on this, we plan the number and composition of the grafts — not according to a flat rate, but according to your actual findings.
Surgical Hair Therapy
FUE Hair Transplant
The FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the gold standard in modern hair transplantation. Individual hair follicles are gently removed from the donor area at the back of the head and precisely transplanted into bald or thinning areas.
Advantages of the FUE method:
- No linear scar — also ideal for short hairstyles
- Minimally invasive with faster healing
- Natural results due to individual growth direction
- Outpatient procedure under local anesthesia
- Permanent results — transplanted hairs do not fall out
Conservative Hair Therapy
PRP Therapy (Autologous Blood Treatment)
During PRP therapy (Platelet-Rich Plasma), your own blood is processed, and the platelet-rich plasma is specifically injected into the scalp. The growth factors contained within stimulate hair follicles and promote new hair growth.
Areas of Application:
- Early and diffuse hair loss
- Support after hair transplantation
- Strengthening thinning hair
- Genetically determined hair loss (androgenetic alopecia)
3–4 sessions at intervals of 4–6 weeks are recommended, followed by maintenance treatments.

Mesotherapy for Hair
In mesotherapy, individually tailored combinations of active ingredients — vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and circulation-boosting substances — are injected in small quantities directly into the scalp.
Effect:
- Improved nutrient supply to the hair roots
- Stimulation of blood circulation in the scalp
- Slowing down hair loss
- Strengthening of existing hair structure
Mesotherapy is particularly suitable as a supplement to PRP therapy or after a hair transplant.

Hair Loss Diagnostics
Before we treat, we understand. Our comprehensive hair loss diagnostics form the basis of every therapy recommendation and include:
Our diagnostics:
- Trichoscopy — Digital analysis of the scalp and hair follicles under magnification
- Blood analysis — Examination of hormonal and nutrient-related causes
- Hair density measurement — Digital recording of current hair density
- Anamnesis — Family history, medications, lifestyle
Based on the results, we recommend the optimal treatment — whether conservative or surgical.

The Right Therapy for Every Type of Hair Loss
Androgenetic Alopecia in Men
Hereditary hair loss is the most common form, affecting approximately 80% of all men during their lifetime. Typical signs include receding temples, a receding hairline, and thinning hair on the crown.
Our treatment options:
- FUE hair transplant for permanent restoration
- PRP therapy to slow down hair loss
- Mesotherapy to strengthen existing hair
- Medication therapy
During the initial consultation, we analyze your individual hair loss pattern according to the Norwood-Hamilton scale and recommend the optimal treatment strategy.
Hair Loss in Women — More Common Than You Think
Approximately 40% of women experience noticeable hair loss at some point in their lives. Unlike in men, female hair loss usually manifests as diffuse thinning in the part area — the hairline often remains intact.
Common Causes:
- Androgenetic alopecia (hereditary)
- Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, birth control pill)
- Iron deficiency, thyroid diseases
- Stress-related hair loss (telogen effluvium)
Thorough diagnostics are particularly important in women, as the causes are more varied. Hair transplantation can also achieve excellent results in women — provided the cause has been identified.
Beard Transplant — For a Fuller Beard
Patchy or uneven beard growth can be permanently corrected with a beard transplant. Hair follicles are taken from the back of the head and implanted into the desired beard areas.
Suitable for:
- Patchy or uneven beard growth
- Scars in the beard area (e.g., after injuries or acne)
- Lack of beard growth on cheeks, chin, or sideburns
The results are permanent and natural — the transplanted hairs grow like normal beard hair and can be shaved, trimmed, and styled.
Eyebrow Transplant — Natural Fullness
Thin, sparse, or missing eyebrows—whether due to over-plucking, scars, alopecia areata, or age-related loss—can be permanently restored with an eyebrow transplant.
Special features:
- Highest precision required — each hair is individually placed in the correct growth direction
- Natural results thanks to the finest follicular units
- Approx. 100–400 grafts per eyebrow
- Outpatient procedure under local anesthesia
The result: permanently natural-looking eyebrows that grow and behave like real brows.
FAQs on Hair Transplant & Hair Therapy
The cost depends on the extent of the treatment – particularly on the number of grafts required. During a personal consultation, you will receive an individualized and transparent cost plan.
The procedure takes between 4 and 8 hours, depending on the number of grafts. It is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia at our practice in Theatinerstraße. You can listen to music or watch movies during the procedure – many patients find the day surprisingly relaxing.
No. The treatment is performed under local anesthesia and is largely painless. The administration of the anesthetic may cause a slight prick. After the procedure, there may be slight swelling and a feeling of tightness, which usually subside within a few days. Painkillers are provided as a precaution but are rarely needed.
The transplanted hairs will initially fall out—this is the normal shedding phase after 2–6 weeks. New hair growth begins in the 3rd–4th month. After 8–10 months, the result is clearly visible. The final result with full hair density will be achieved after 12–18 months.
We exclusively use the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. In this procedure, individual hair follicles are gently extracted from the donor area and implanted into the desired areas. The FUE technique leaves no linear scar, allows for faster healing, and delivers particularly natural-looking results.
Yes, absolutely. Approximately 40% of our hair loss patients are women. Hair transplantation can achieve excellent results in women—especially for hereditary hair loss in the crown area or at the hairline. Thorough diagnostics are particularly important for women, as the causes can be more diverse than in men.
Hair transplantation transplants hair follicles into bald areas — it restores hair where it no longer grows. PRP therapy, on the other hand, strengthens and stimulates existing, weakened hair follicles. Both methods can be combined: PRP after a transplant improves the engraftment rate and strengthens the surrounding hair.
A hair transplant is usually a self-paid service. Statutory health insurance does not cover the costs. Private health insurance companies may reimburse part of the costs in individual cases — we are happy to advise you on this. We offer flexible installment payment options.
Most patients can resume light office work after 2–3 days. Physical labor and sports should be avoided for 2–4 weeks. Redness in the recipient area subsides after about 1–2 weeks and can be easily covered with a cap in the meantime.
No. The transplanted hair follicles are taken from the donor area at the back of the head – these hairs are genetically resistant to hair loss. They retain this characteristic even after transplantation and grow permanently in the new location. The result is lifelong.
The number of grafts required depends on the size of the bald area and the desired density. As a rough guide: A receding hairline requires approx. 800–1,500 grafts, and thickening of the crown area approx. 1,500–3,000 grafts. In the initial consultation, we will precisely measure the area and create a detailed plan.
With us, consultation, procedure, and aftercare are carried out by a single source — by board-certified dermatologists, not by untrained staff. You have a dedicated contact person for the entire treatment and aftercare. All procedures are performed according to German hygiene standards and quality guidelines. In case of complications, we are immediately available — which is often not the case with procedures abroad.
